The best make-up for mature skin and why you don’t need an expensive mascara — That’s Not My Age

When it comes to discovering the best beauty products, professional makeup artists are always on top of things. They can test out the latest products on a variety of skin tones and types and therefore have a great overview. One of my favorite artists to work with, Lindsey Poole, is well-respected in the industry and has a lovely, relaxed style. She is known for her impressive client list, creating looks for Fashion, She, red and the guardianand working with high-profile names such as Sophie Ellis Bextor, Sharon Horgan, Sadie Frost and Lucy Bronze (What excited me most was the latter.)

I can always rely on Lindsey to make me look presentable (!). Her makeup is natural and never cakey, and when she works her magic I feel like myself, but on a really (really) good day.

In this article, Lindsey shares her favourite beauty products, the makeup she uses for herself and her clients, along with expert tips on how to apply it. From the lipstick that will see you through lunchtime to the mascara that costs less than £10, here are her recommendations:

Lindsey’s Skincare and Makeup Tips

For mature skin, hydration is essential, as is a consistent routine. One of my recent discoveries is Tatcha Hydrated Skin CreamIt creates a nice smooth surface for makeup and the formula doesn’t flatten or dull the skin. This cream feels quite luxurious when you apply it and it smells great. I also like the Vitamin-enriched facial base by Bobbi Brown, which is great under makeup, preps the face perfectly and keeps the skin hydrated. Another product that is always in my kit is Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre.

During the summer months, a tinted moisturizer creates an excellent base. Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturiser It glides on, provides instant shine and also includes SPF. Hourglass Veil Skin Tint is another bright, light, simple and very moisturizing option. For a more satin finish, the Lisa Eldridge Seamless Skin Tint It’s really good (although it’s quite transparent).

If you have redness on your face try the Erborian CC Red CorrectWhen you apply the product it seems to melt away any redness. The consistency is really nice and doesn’t look «chalky» on the skin. The concealer I use most often is Secret Camouflage by Laura Mercier, It comes in two shades so you can mix and match to create a custom color for your complexion. Apply with a small brush to conceal dark spots and soften under-eye circles. If done correctly, the foundation and concealer shouldn’t be visible and should help give the illusion of a flawless complexion (even if you don’t have one). You don’t actually need to apply foundation all over your face, just in the areas that need it.

For a soft glow I love it Baume Essentiel Translucent Highlighter Stick by Chanel, It is applied on the top of the cheekbones. The balm does not contain any shimmer, so it is the most natural and does not highlight fine lines. I also rate it as Lisa Eldridge Elevated Glow Highlighter which can be used before foundation to achieve a natural glow. You can also apply a little to the corner of your eye for a more luminous look.

Megastar makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury They have loads of fantastic products that can be found in my makeup bag. Don’t be put off by the dramatic, glittery makeup faces they show in their adverts! You can use the range in a subtle, less is more way. Hollywood Flawless Filter It’s a foundation and a highlighter (some people even use it instead of a foundation). I gently brush it on Flawless finishing powder for airbrush on the temples, forehead, chin and nose to help filter out enlarged pores and reduce shine. Another product that has a permanent place in my kit is The Sophisticate – a four-piece matte eyeshadow palette in chocolate, taupe, tan and cream shades that I use to add a bit of color and depth to the eye line (and it’s shimmer-free). These shades suit most complexions. Simply apply all over the lid with your fingers or a brush.

For eyelashes, I love it. 2000 calories of Max Factor Mascara. I’ve tried a lot of them over the years, but I always come back to this one. I don’t think you need to spend a lot of money to find a decent mascara that works well and lengthens your lashes without clumping or flaking. There are plenty of good options in Boots and Superdrug – I recommend that too. Maybelline Sky High Mascara.

On the cheeks I like to use the stick blushes Westman WorkshopThey are expensive, but they do last, so I think it’s worth spending a little extra. The texture isn’t too shimmery or matte, but it does give a nice glow. The blush also stays in place and doesn’t slide down your face, even when it’s hot. The colors are very natural and enhance your complexion. Cream blushes and bronzers are much easier to apply than powders, and it’s hard to go wrong. They can be layered, look more natural, and are also incredibly useful when you’re traveling.

For lips, Lisa Eldridge has a fantastic range of products. Liquid lipsticks often feel horrible, run and dry out the lips, but the Velveteen Liquid Lip Color It feels really moisturising and hydrating and is very long lasting. You can apply it with a dab or your own lip brush, rather than straight from the tube if you want a more sheer and subtle look, without any harsh lines around the edges. lipsticks They match the colors of Velveteen and, once again, are not drying. She is an expert in skin care, so her products also treat and care for the skin. Charlotte Tibury Iconic Lip Liner This is another product that many artists in the industry recommend because it works on many skin tones. I personally use it and love it.
