The Importance Of Aeration and Overseeding

What is liquid aeration?

Liquid aeration is an alternative to traditional core aeration. The main benefit of any aeration is to allow air, water and nutrients to penetrate the soil and reduce soil compaction. Traditionally, aeration is done by running a large machine over the lawn which drills holes to achieve these essential benefits. This method aims to provide the same results with less mess!

How does liquid aeration work?

Description of how to benefit from aeration.

Liquid aeration is a natural solution that saturates the soil, mixing deeply into the soil and expanding. These tiny air pockets allow water and nutrients to freely reach the root system of the grass without disturbing the top layer of soil. By limiting that disturbance, we also limit the space on the surface for new weeds to grow.

Central aeration vs. liquid aeration

You may be wondering, what is the difference? Is one better than the other? The answer is yes and no. Each solution offers similar benefits. While mechanical core aeration offers faster results by physically perforating the soil, those holes are relatively quickly filled in as the soil settles. Liquid aeration provides a slower process but still penetrates and contributes to soil health, offering more long-term results.

Can I replant with this method?

Absolutely! Because the components of the solution break down the mulch, this also allows for more contact between the soil and the seeds, which promotes increased germination of new grass seeds. Keep the new seeds hydrated for at least two weeks and you won’t regret it!

Overseeding is good for lawns that are suffering from weed infestations, drought stress, insect or disease damage, or that are showing other signs of decline, such as bare patches. Overseeding a yard with newer grass is often the best way to thicken the lawn and improve its health and appearance. Additionally, new grass can better resist damage from drought, lawn diseases, and grass-damaging insects.

Benefits of overseeding your lawn include:

Filling in areas of turf damaged by summer stress, disease or insects.

Thickening and increasing the density of fine turfgrass

Improve the appearance of the lawn

Positive environmental benefits of having a thick, lush lawn.

Improve the ability of turf to combat weeds, insects and diseases.
