Listen to the design needs of your home
Each home has a «voice.» This idea is not new to me and it is a concept that I found several years ago. This idea is that every home, your home, has an architectural style. For your home to look better inside and out, it is advisable to understand and respect that style. This does No It means that you should become an expert in all architectural designs, but having a wide understanding of the types of houses is useful and interesting!
Our little brick house was built in the mid -1960s. The exterior is simple with strongly at odds that flank the windows in the front. If this were our permanent home, we would eliminate them, we would install larger windows and fill the space between the new windows and the brick with stone.
Understand the architectural language of your home
Each home has a distinctive architectural style (for example, cabin, colonial, mid -century, farm) or sometimes a mixture of styles. Having an idea of the style in which your home has been designed is valuable when considering renewal. In our neighborhood, there is a trend that is executed in which the owners are hitting a modern facade in these style brick houses. The result is quite forced and striking. The warm brick tones have been painted white, the edge is a hard black and all the charming character, such as blinds and festolated ornaments, has been stripped. There is a place for modern color and architecture palettes and work wonderfully in buildings designed for them. The disadvantage of these modern «updates.»
An awareness and respect for the architecture of your home is important both for the outside and interior. I have been fascinated to learn more about the design of houses inside and out. Because of this, Matt gave me these two books for Christmas. I have already enjoyed several nights for the fire learning the names of different styles and how they applied to a house inside and out.

The role of the scale and the proportion
In the interiors, I have noticed the importance of the scale in home decoration. The small rooms benefit from lamps, carpets and works of art escalated to the size of the room. Especially in small rooms, it is important not to use small small and discontinuous furniture, since it can create a feeling of a busy doll house. Art and medium -sized lamps feel «correct.» Large sofas can also work well in smaller rooms. However, in large rooms, large furniture and art, lamps, etc. They can create an uncomfortable space that feels as if I had come to visit a giant’s house. One of the best ways to understand what a good size is for your room is through proof and error, as well as studying rooms similar to those attracted to you. Furniture, lighting and art must be proportional to space.

Let the house guide your choices
As you learn to listen to your home what is appropriate in architecture, you will come to «listen» even more details, such as the right edge, art, furniture and colors. How outer materials and natural surroundings can inform the interior color schemes. Adjustment sizes must be in line with the style of your home. A house with very tall roofs and adorned Victorian architecture will require more adorned moldings, large oil paintings of richly detailed colors and vintage or old decorative furniture. A simpler smaller home would look better with a lighter clearer moldings, simpler furniture with more straight lines, etc. These are general examples, but hopefully it will make you think of the right direction.
The architecture of our brick house is pleasant to mix with a field of countryside. We have chosen the finishing colors to complement the warm brick tones. In the patio, we add blinds and country -style wall doors painted in a rich green color of grass with ivory ornaments. It was a wonderfully fun project that gave us a great transformation!

Listen to your house
Let me encourage you to step back and observe your homes before making design decisions. You may be surprised by what your home «says» and how to work within the framework of architecture will become an easy natural way to improve your home. There is a satisfaction that comes from a home that feels consistent and faithful to itself. His home, each home has a voice and can «say» what he needs.
Until next, take care of yourself,
Rachel
