Enough – Re-Fabbed

Very rarely in our culture, do you listen to someone who thinks that he has enough? You see it with money, possessions, status, «like» of social networks and in many other ways. It seems that people can’t have enough. Having enough means that it has a certain quantity, quality and scope of something that fully satisfies its demands, needs or expectations. It seems that people constantly strive for more and are never really satisfied with enough.

In the Old Testament we find a story of a widow. God had told the prophet Elijah to go to a certain people and there he would find a widow who would feed him. Then, Elijah traveled there and found a widow. When he met her, he asked him to bring him a cup of water and also eat.

«But she said: ‘I swear your God that I don’t have a single piece of bread in the house. And I only have a handful of flour in the jar and a little kitchen oil at the bottom of the jug. I was just gathering some sticks to cook this last meal, and then my son and I will die.’ But Elijah said:» Don’t be afraid! So he did what Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her family continued eating for many days. 1 Kings 17: 12-16

This widow did not have enough. He was in his last flour and was prepared to make the final food for her and her son. But this widow completely obeyed God through Elijah’s words even though she didn’t have enough resources to do what she was asking. She hoped that God would maintain her promise and provide. The Israelites faced the same when God provided Maná daily in the desert. Here, every day, the widow used her resources and every day, when she returned to her jug, she had enough for another day.

God is our daily provider. He wants to know that we trust that he is enough. He wants us to depend on him every day. He wants us to show our obedience consistently. He wants us to open our hearts to follow his orders and have the faith that he will appear with enough and enough. Only God can provide everything we need and only he can give us enough.
