Amy Poehler and Maya Hawke Believe ‘Inside Out 2’ Is a Billion Dollars That Actually Did Some Good for the World

Maya Hawke joined her Inside out 2 co-star Amy Poehler on the latter’s podcast good time at a special meeting where the duo discussed the film’s multi-million dollar impact.

Hawke played Anxiety in the Pixar sequel, and the character became an instant fan favorite, representing a new emotion that emerged as part of Riley’s coming-of-age journey. Meanwhile, Joy (Poehler) and the rest of Riley’s most familiar emotions had to deal with her son’s growth and impending adolescence in the film.

Inside out 2 It won so many hearts and filled movie theaters just when the industry (and apparently the world in general) needed it most. Hawke described the success of Inside out 2 as a pleasant surprise, «for something that makes a billion dollars and is good for the world; I don’t think there’s anything that does that.»

Poehler added: “The word ‘billion’ and ‘good for the world’ [don’t] go together.»

The attributed duo Inside out 2The enormous success is due to how its creative team focused on the multitudes that a person can have during adolescence, when so many things can seem so uncertain. However, anyone of any age can relate to having room for a mix of feelings, as Hawke explained.

“The Joy-Anxiety relationship taught me a lot about showing love to that part of me and allowing other people to see it so I can show them love,” she said. “A way to calm [your anxiety] The bottom line is to invite him into the conversation, observe what he thinks and what worries him, and address each point, and then offer him a comfortable chair and say, ‘Okay, you’re invited.’ I’m not trying to lock you out behind a door. Because that complicates it even more. The most important thing I learned from doing this and allowing myself to be welcomed into the beautiful world of this movie is to give my anxiety a comfortable chair. “I mean, anxiety might be the defining emotion of our time.”

Pöhler agreed. «It was really fun working on those characters together, because when the moment is really scary, like these, you want to find a way to tune in, check it out, help yourself and help other people. Like, you want to dive in and get out. But when you just say, ‘toxic positivity,’ like, ‘this is great,’ it’s like, ‘Honey, things are bad. Things are really bad.'»

Hawke added: «Yes, then you still need to welcome some [joy]. “You’re not helping anyone if you exclude joy completely.”

Poehler pointed to a specific moment that resonated with her in Inside out 2. «Riley, our character, has calmed down on the ice. She’s talked to her friends. She’s feeling a little bit like herself. She gets back on the ice. She starts skating. And they call Joy to come back. And Anxiety makes a little gesture like ‘[right] Here.’ …It made me cry a lot. And I just thought, ‘Oh, as if that little gesture is what we should try to do during this banana-raising time we live in.’ ‘Cause that’s all we can do, baby: make space for each other.’
