how to decorate a christmas tree with glass ornaments

pinterest

I just love my Christmas tree this year. It’s practically identical to last year, but it actually has MORE embellishments. It seemed like that was impossible, but what I have realized is this… where there is a will, there is a way. And I still need more 😀 And… the top is crooked and needs an embellishment hahaha

When I decided I wanted to make a tree with all glass ornaments that had that “nostalgic” feel, I started accumulating all the glass ornaments I could find… and what I discovered was that it became something of an obsession. I had always stuck to certain “themes” and had extravagant selections and big decorations… so this was something completely different.

The joy of seeing all these colorful ornaments together, both old and new, brought back many feelings that my other trees didn’t have. This tree felt a little like “home.” Because? I’m not sure. My house never had these decorations, but still, it really feels like home.

You know I’m really CRAZY about color, so this tree brings all the colors of the rainbow to life!

Some of these ornaments are truly antique, and some are new Shiny Brites that are just made to look old, and some are even random ball ornaments that may not even be «glass.» I found them everywhere from Whatnot to TJ Maxx to Walmart to thrift stores and everywhere in between. The mix of styles and colors came together to create the perfect glass filled tree.

The key to getting the most complete look was to mix small, large and medium ornaments everywhere…from the deepest part of the tree to the outermost branches. This is also a «sparse» tree, so it leaves more room for the ornaments to really appear. I think that really helps with these types of embellishments. I think they would get lost in a fuller tree.

I put too many photos in this blog post, but I couldn’t help myself. It was almost impossible to stop taking pictures because they are all so beautiful!

I’ll be honest, although I LOVE it during the day…the night is pure magic! I’ll have to share photos from that time soon too!

I took this photo lying on the ground looking at the tree!

I hope you feel inspired by this tree! It’s certainly not as «over the top» as many I’ve done in the past (which you can see HERE), but it’s full of beauty and nostalgia in its own way, and I think it might be my favorite!
