English -style interiors have a timeless charm that combines elegance with a warm and cozy atmosphere. One of the key ways of achieving this aspect is the art of patterns mixture. The patterns play a vital role in the definition of spaces, adding layers of interest and creating the sensation par excellence of an English house. For me, incorporating the mixture of patterns in my home has been an exciting journey of self -expression and design discovery.
What is patterns mixture?
The patterns mixture means combining different designs, such as florals, stripes and paintings, to create a cohesive appearance in layers in a space. In English interiors, the mixture of patterns often uses combinations in bold: a floral sofa combined with striped curtains or a pictures shot in a floral patterned bed. The objective is not uniformity but harmony, where patterns complement each other while depth and character are added.

How I used the pattern mixture in my home
Bringing the pattern of the mixture to my home required experimentation and the will to take risks. In the living room, I mixed floral upholstery and paintings with an Indian block printing chill against the mottled pattern of the bamboo windows. This created a mixture that felt interesting but cohesive.

In the guest room, I started with a romantic floral wallpaper as a backdrop, then the bed is dressed in vintage pillowcases and a handmade quilt. The window cover is an English -style pellet of customized dreaking dijaje covered with a moss green jacquard. An objective for this room was to try their luck in the pattern mixture while avoiding visual overwhelming. To achieve this goal, all patterns and colors are inside a soft and off palette. I discovered that sticking to a consistent color scheme helped maintain a sense of harmony. For example, in the dining room, I combined a floral tablecloth with striped napkins, ensuring the shared patterns complementary and cream complementary tones.
The process came with challenges and I could not use all the colors and pattern that I liked. Sometimes, rethinking combinations that felt too busy or not coincided was essential. However, «practicing» with room patterns per room has helped me to have an idea of what works and is pleasant to view. My favorite combinations are often those that bring a touch of nostalgia, such as the use of vintage inspiration patterns that evoke the charm of ancient English cabins.
Tips to start
If you are new in the pattern mixture, start by little. Start with accents such as pillows or releases to have an idea of how patterns work in their space. Do not be afraid to experiment with samples before committing to larger pieces. I have a full box of fabric samples and tapestry paper! Focusing in one room at the same time can also make the process more manageable.
Another useful advice is to choose a cohesive color palette from the beginning you will use throughout the house. Even if the patterns differ in style, and colors can be more or less intense in different rooms, a common color scheme can unify their home. Be willing to take risks! The patterns mixture is a personal design expression trip ~ Enjoy the trip!
