How to Minimize Your Capsule Wardrobe

There is something beautiful to open your closet and see only pieces you love. Everything fits, everything feels like youAnd everything works together. But even in the world of capsules cabinets, where the goal is to reduce and simplify, things can begin to multiply. Maybe you collected an extra cozy sweater in the authorization. Or maybe you had that dress «just in case» … although «just in case» it has not appeared in three years.

Minimize your capsule wardrobe It is not about deprivation. It is about refining what In fact Wear and love to dress feel like a gift instead of daily decision fatigue.

Let’s break down one of my spring/summer capsule cabinets to rationalize it even more, starting with dresses …

Step 1: visit your true lifestyle again (not the life of dreams)

Start asking: How is your real and everyday life? If you spend most of your time at home, prioritize comfort and practicality. If you work outside the home, keep in mind the professional outfits. And if you are at some intermediate point, point to pieces that can flex in both worlds. Think in terms of roles: housewife, wife, mother, error corridor, host. What pieces will better serve these roles?

In this capsule there are ten dresses in total. My husband and I attend the church three times a week and sing in the choir. This means that I use dressed more frequently than not, in addition to the fact that I am a skirt and dressed in a girl anyway.

Here you can see the marked dresses from the rest of the capsule. This helped me more easily to see exactly what I had and evaluate if it really served me well. In the image on the left, you see my daily dresses. On the left are the church dresses. This number of dresses works well for me.

Step 2: Take everything (yes, everything)

Place each article from the closet of your capsule in your bed or a grid. The goal here is to see the complete image. Now, ask yourself honestly:

  • What articles do you use weekly?
  • Which ones have I avoided?
  • What pieces make me feel more safe?

Once evaluated these categories, the spaces will be announced and can create a well -informed shopping list.

«If you feel like a job to make an outfit with it, it is probably not part of its true capsule.»

Here are all the skirts in this capsule (before purging). I considered all the activities that I do weekly and thinned from there. Again, getting the skirts out of the rest of the clothes helped me make clear decisions.

These are the skirts that made the cut. The five skirts to the right that I use throughout the week, and the four skirts on the left are only for the church. This feels much better when it was reduced!

Step 3: Choose a nucleus color palette

Minimize becomes easier when everything goes together. Choose:

  • 2–3 neutral (such as cream, camel, navy blue)
  • 2–3 accent colors (such as olive green, dusty pink, soft blue)

Everything should coordinate within this palette. This does not mean that you can never use color, only that your closet’s pieces should harmonize among themselves, mixing and combining easily. Any piece of «one» that does not go with anything but need to move on.

The next photographs section focuses on the tops, and here it is easy to see the color palette. I clearly like ivory, soft roses and soft blues.

All these combined tops provide all informal and church outfits that I need weekly.

As «complete» pieces, I have a handful of cardigans. I love cardigans and find that they are one of the most versatile garments. They can be used on a stamped upper part, on their own or on a dress for a different appearance.

For the church I have this «blazer» linen and two manga blazers 3/4.

Step 4: Establish a limit (with margin)

If it helps, assign numbers:

  • 5 tops
  • 3 funds
  • 2 dresses
  • 1 piece of layers
  • 2–3 shoes

These are not concrete. They are only guidelines to help you see what is essential and what is extra. Choose what is useful, not what complies with the number assigned that category. Over time, you will get an idea of how articles in each category serve you better.

Here are the elements that did not make the cut and helped me to rationalize my capsule even more. Do not worry if you have to pass and eliminate extras from your capsule now and then, this will keep your fresh and highly functional wardrobe.

Step 5: Store, do not throw

You don’t need to donate everything immediately. If there are elements that are not sure of moving forward, put them «in trial.» Place additional items in one container, box or other closet. Live with your wardrobe minimized for a moment. If those articles are not lost in 3 weeks, you will know that they are not essential and can let them go.

«It’s not about having less clothes. It’s about living a simpler and more rich life.»

One last word

A minimized capsule closet allows you to dress more easily, take care of the clothes you have better and even wash a little less (yes, please!). And do you know what I found? The fewer clothes I have, the more me I feel.

Until next, take care of yourself,

Rachel
